This Privacy Policy explains what information Unwatched (unwatched.click, "we", "us") processes when you use our website and the "Unwatched — YouTube Summary" Chrome extension, why we process it, and the choices you have. We keep this short on purpose: the service sends almost nothing to our servers beyond the transcript of the video you choose to summarize.

1. Who we are

Unwatched is a service that turns a YouTube video into a structured, article-style summary. You can reach us at support@unwatched.click.

2. Scope

This policy covers both the Unwatched website (account sign-in, summaries and saved articles) and the Unwatched Chrome extension, which lets you summarize the video you are currently watching from a side panel on YouTube.

3. What we process and why

  • The transcript / captions of the video you summarize. When using the extension, the captions are read in your own browser from the YouTube page you are viewing and sent to our API only to generate the summary. We use the transcript text solely to produce the article.
  • The video URL, ID and title. Used to identify the video and to label and store the resulting article.
  • Account information when you sign in — your email address, display name, role and, if provided by your sign-in provider, an avatar URL. Used to authenticate you and to enforce the daily generation limit.
  • Authentication tokens. After you sign in, short-lived access and refresh tokens are stored locally on your device — in chrome.storage.local for the extension, and in your browser's local storage on the website. They are used only to call our API on your behalf.
  • A random anonymous request ID. A random identifier (e.g. ext-…) generated on your device and stored locally, used to link an "analyze" request to its summary for basic usage counting.

4. What we do NOT collect

  • No advertising or third-party tracking/analytics SDKs in the extension.
  • No browsing history and no watch history. The extension does not record which videos or pages you visit; it only acts on the specific video for which you press "Summarize".
  • We never sell your personal data.
  • The extension's access is limited to the permissions it declares — sidePanel, storage and scripting — and to three hosts: youtube.com (to read captions of the current video), unwatched.click (sign-in) and api.unwatched.click (our API). It does not request access to your other tabs or to arbitrary websites.

5. Third parties

To generate a summary, the video transcript is sent to a large-language-model (LLM) provider that we use as a sub-processor (for example OpenRouter, DeepSeek or Google Gemini, via the Vercel AI SDK). These providers process the transcript only to return the generated text and are subject to their own terms. Sign-in may be handled through an OAuth provider, which receives only what is necessary to authenticate you. We do not share your data with any other third parties.

6. Storage and retention

Summaries (articles) you generate are saved in our database and associated with your account, so you can find them again. Authentication tokens remain in your device's local storage until you log out. You can ask us to delete your account and your saved articles at any time by emailing support@unwatched.click.

7. Your choices and rights

  • Log out at any time — this clears the extension's locally stored session.
  • Uninstall the extension — this removes all data it stored on your device.
  • Request access to, or deletion of, the data associated with your account by contacting support@unwatched.click.

8. Security

All communication with our API happens over HTTPS. We use JWT-based authentication with short-lived access tokens and rotating refresh tokens.

9. Children

The service is not directed to children under the age of 13.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version is always available on this page, and the "Last updated" date above reflects the latest change.
